One instructor will then ask the questions: “Why is having good fitness important?” Students will answer and instructors will build on their answers about the importance of playing games that involve running. Speed ball will then be discussed in the scope of the conversation about fitness. Instructors will explain and demonstrate rules, and then instructors will check for understanding.
Students will stand on the spots, facing the teacher as following:

Speed Ball: Instructors will have the game area set up prior to class starting.
Rules: Rules for Speedball that will be explained to students during introduction
Rules:
1. Players with the ball can only take three steps
2. Players without the ball can move freely
3. Points are awarded for scoring a “touchdown” on opponent’s side of field.
4. No collision contact between players is allowed.
5. Offensive Possession must be kept without the ball hitting the ground.
6. Whenever the ball touches the ground, the team that was on defense prior gains possession of the ball. There possession begins where the ball hit the ground and when that team has the ball on that spot.
7. Good Sportsmanship is required.
8. After a “touchdown,” the scoring team throws the ball like a “kickoff”
9. Defense can intercept or hit ball out of the air.
10. Holding is not allowed.
Safety Considerations: Safety will be a priority and will be instructed to students
Safety:
1. Students will be instructed to watch where they are moving.
2. Students must stay in there playing area unless retrieving the game ball.
3. Students must try to stay on their feet and not fall on the ground.
4. Students must not dive because diving will not be taught by instructors.
5. Games will be with smaller teams to limit collisions (i.e. 4 on 4 rather than 10 on 10)
Strategies: Strategies are important to the fundamental aspects of any sport or game.
Strategies:
1. Move to open space
2. Don’t throw into coverage
3. Talk to teammates about where they are moving, where they should move, and what the defense is doing.
4. Defending from the front leaves the long pass open while defending from the back leaves the short pass open.
5. Keep moving. Standing still makes you easy to cover.
Closure: Instructors will give a closing discussion to class about the activity
(1-2 minutes)
Closure: These are the topics that will be addressed
1. Specific Feedback
2. Student’s response to game
3. Dismissal
